A neighbour's son had gone to Philadelphia for studies and has a valid student travel insurance. Unfortunately, 8 months after he started his course, his father expired and he had to come back to India. His mother is unwell and he cant continue his studies anymore. But his fees for the entire year are paid. Can he claim reimbursement of the fees

Hi,

In case your study gets interrupted due to prolonged hospitalization of more than a month due to injury or sickness, or due to accidental death of the sponsor, thereby leading to discontinuation of studies for the remaining semester, then the advance tuition fees paid to the educational institution will be reimbursed minus actual refunds.

Re: parent's death

Though it depends on the policy he has, most student travel insurances include reimbursement for cancelled courses due to emergencies.

Re: parent's death

My condolences to the family. Most likely, his insurance will cover it. However please advise him not to cancel right now but take a leave of absence from the college. That way, he can continue his studies later on.
