The cost of small group health insurance is cost-prohibitive for many small startups. One way to provide a higher benefit level to employees and their children/dependents is to offer a tax-free Health Insurance Allowance that employees (and their families) can use on private health insurance.

Small and micro-businesses are less likely to cover dependents (spouse and children) compared to larger businesses. And if they do, the employer contribution is often much lower than larger businesses. Also, the sum insured provided might be lesser.
