I work with a multinational in Kolkata.

I work with a multinational in Kolkata. For the past 6 years, I was allotted a company-owned car for my use. No insurance claim was made on the car during any of those 6 years. I now want to buy my own car. Can I avail the no-claim bonus while insuring my own car?

Re: I work with a multinational in Kolkata.

Usually the NCB bonus cannot be transferred from one insured to another. However, since you're transferring the ownership from company to indiviual, the same can be transferred basis the submission of the below documents:

  • Additional Documents:
    In case of Transfer of Vehicle from Employer (Company) to Employee (Insured Person) - No Objection Certificate (NOC) on Company’s Letterhead with below 2 details ;
    1. No objection to transfer No Claim Bonus (NCB)
    2. No objection to transfer policy

Request you to visit SELF HELP Section on website and place your request for the same

  • Registration Certificate (RC) Not Transferred
  • Form No. 29 and 30 duly filled and signed OR RTO Transfer fee receipt
    No Objection Certificate (NOC) from previous Insured for transfer of policy
    Additional Premium would be required from new owner if there is any NCB.

Yes you can avail the no claim bonus. But you need to make the transfer within 90 days from the previous policy expiry date

Re: I work with a multinational in Kolkata.

If you plan to buy the same car from the company, then the no-claim bonus can be carried forward from company’s name to your name. You would need to submit a certificate from your employer that the car was exclusively used by you and that the vehicle has been transferred to your name. Based on this, the insurer will transfer the no-claim bonus benefit to you.

If you buy a new vehicle, then you cannot get the no-claim bonus from company’s car transferred to your name.
